Last night I finally found the right part to replace the faucet control for the bathtub - yippee! Now I've installed both a new faucet knob and a new shower head. I rule! Bathroom is painted, just got to put up the wallpaper border, and scrub the tiled floor. The toughest thing will be removing the sliding glass doors from the tub. Whew. Not sure when I'll start on that.

Priced sliding doors for the bedroom - I'm looking at $1500 with installation. I want to get the door now, but I also wonder if I shouldn't just wait until I get my bonus in the Summer. I don't know. I am torn. Loew's has outdoor furniture very cheap (relatively) right now. For example, I can get a fancy gas grill for $130. I should buy now rather than wait till Summer or even Spring. Must think.

Still unpacking. Must put the liner in kitchen cabinets tonight so I can put dishes/food away and start cooking meals this week. Must make my first mortgage payment. I've received about a dozen pieces of mail from my mortgage broker and lender. Why?!!?!

Hooked up my DVD player last night; watched Stepford Wives - that is one SCARY movie. It was very, very good. The 18 minute documentary with the director (Bryan Forbes) and some of the actors is intriguing; who knew screenwriter William Goldman (The Princess Bride had such an ego? And is it just me, or does Katharine Ross not look like Courtney Thorne-Smith? And Paula Prentiss (Bobbi) looks like a cross between Geena Davis and somebody else I can't quite put my finger on. Everything old truly is new again. I cannot believe they are remaking this movie - WHY? Nicole Kidman as Joanna Eberhart is feasible, but Bette Midler as Bobbi?! WTF? Bobbi is like this total babe. Katharine Ross was really beautiful back in the day; I'm glad she got the part in Donnie Darko - what a good actress.

Got called into work today for mandatory OT due to really bad outages in Utah. Too bad I don't get paid OT! Being salaried sometimes sucks; it truly does mean that the more you work, the less you make. But other times it's cool. Oh well. Must head out to church, then it's probably back to the office. I was there from 6-10 this morn already. I've got to stop at Dania sometime today to pick out my desk.

Goldman's book Adventures in the Screen Trade (I think) is a classic on screenwriting--highly recommended, and once you've read it you'll know just how big an ego he has.

wallpaper border: if you must have a border (okay, I'm traumatized by my mother's abominable taste in borders while I was a mere child, plus brainwashed by TV-home-redecorating shows to hateHateHATE borders) go nutso with the adhesive. You don't want those yummy hot showers steaming yr border off in bits & pieces.

$1500 sliding doors? what are they made of? eagle feathers? truffles?

Hehe ... doors made of truffles - what a funny thought!

Do you know about where I can get good sliding doors affordably? I think because I want wood clad it is so expensive. White vinyl would be under $400. The installation is $350. I'm going to price some more doors soon. The installation is about $350 - eek! But I just can't mess with installing a 6 foot wide door. And then if I want the UV protection and the special lock, etc. etc. it comes close to $1500.

I have never been a fan of wallpaper border myself. Out of some 60 patterns, I only found two patterns that I remotely liked out, and the one I got was the only one I liked a LOT. It is very nice - it looks like mosaic tiles of iridescent (sp?) green, blue and gold. And it has a puffy, tiled texture. But I mistook the words "prepaste" for meaning the border was already sticky (like a stamp) so I have to go back and pick up the adhesive. I'm glad my bathroom is small so there won't be much to do.

Heh, I live in Utah and was one of those poor slobs who was without power for several days between Christmas and New Year's. I'm assuming you are employed with Utah Power's parent company (I send my bills to Portland), and I appreciate you putting in all that extra work in getting the power back on here :) More power to ya (heh heh)

Awww, poor guy. Some folks were out for a whole week. Yeah, I work for the corporation out here. The HQ are here in Portland, but our other big base is in SLC.

I hope you were able to keep warm and fed during those cold, dark days. Being without water for four days made me a little delirious; being without power would have made me feel positively primordial.
